I would recommend this game if you dont mind the poor graphics and just want a portable version of this awesome game. And although I was not expecting mind blowing graphics, they are still a bit dissapointing and I think the developers could have make a better job. This is a good DS version of the Civilization series. It has pretty much all the things that make these games fun.
They are real people like Abraham Lincoln, Cleopatra, Lady Catherine, Chief Mao, Ghondi, and others.I would definitely reccomend this game. I really didn't want it, but she said because it was somewhat educational, she would chip in. I have already beaten this game by a domination victory, and now I am doing this mode where you can choose if you want your game to be mainly about war, science, and lots of other cool things. This game was definitely hard at first, where the other countries were too strong for you, and you didn't have much to work with, but after the first half-hour you start to get the hang of things. It is such a fantastic game.
I am not a huge fan of these sort of games, as they really confuse me. It is so addicting. It's difficult, but it's fun.The characters are funny, entertaining, and have a fun, realistic attitude. I'm only nine, and can only understand so much.
You choose your world leader and which colony you want to own, then you can make friends, fight enemies in war, have your colony prosper, build The Wonders of the World, and lots of others. Buy it. But my mom was looking around with me in GameStop and she found this game for eight dollars. So I thought, What do I have to lose.I am so happy I made this purchase.
Graphics are relatively simple, as are the sound effects. I lost more often when I concentrated on just creating citizens to colonize various outposts/cities. As you can probably guess, it is easier to conquer a city than doing the latter two (as you try to defend yourself from would be encroachers). There are three modes, online play, pre-planned scenarios or just a random civilization from 'scratch'. Each leader and civilization will start with their own historical attributes. This game is suited better for teens and adults.
However, for a handheld system, this title holds its on in the genre of strategy games. For those people who are looking to get more detail, they should stick with the conventional computers or high end consoles. It is ironic that I used Gandhi to develop technology which I then turn to create weapons of war. I personally found it was easier to stay a republic to wage war on my neighbors, rather than adopt a democracy.Overall, this is a simple game with a complex strategy that is both entertaining and has a high replay value. You can create legions of warriors, archers, horsemen, colonists, battleships, destroyers, aircraft and even an atomic bomb (which I did not use in the coup de gras of the last colony that I had to conquer for world domination). There are milestones that your civilization accomplishes over time, such as starting from despotism to a republic to feudalism to a monarchy to a democracy. The game is simple given that it is just on a handheld console, but it is still compelling and rather addicting. You create alliances and break them, as you wish. You have the option of listening to your advisers.
The concept of the game involves starting off with a colony and trying to accomplish one of three things (they can be concurrent): Conquering 4 Capital Cities (Domination), Achieving Technological Advances (Technological), Economic milestones, or Creating the Wonders of the World (Cultural). Overall, it takes a balance of strategies to succeed. It is definitely worth a try. This is not going to wow you by those senses but the game will. There are many different options on how to manage your civilization, through building Wonders of the World, various buildings that facilitate your objectives, concentrating on production/gold/science/food, and creating alliances or war. Your citizens have various tasks where you can defend, battle, escort traders, or utilization of air/naval firepower to carry out various objectives.Your role can be undertaken with various historical characters such as Gandhi, Napolean, Alexander the Great, Queen Isabella, Julius Caesar, Mao Tse Dong, Abraham Lincoln, Otto Van Bismarck, and others.
It is fun and engaging but the Diplomatic aspect of Civ that some may enjoy is not quite as robust in this but it is a nice diversion and an enjoyable fun for a short time. As expected this is a nice condensed version of one the longest running strategy games the PC world has seen.
I agree with a few of the other posts that the graphics are not what the ds is capable of but its stil a fun game overall. This is also the first turn-based game Ive ever been able to play without getting to frusterated. I just wish the games were longer. This is the first time I have played a civ game and I love it. It took me a few games to get used to it but once I did its been fun.
